Terms of Service
Effective August 29, 2026
The deal, in plain language. Using Media Nutrition Label means you agree to these terms.
What the app is — and isn't
Media Nutrition Label is a critical-thinking aid. It uses AI to describe what a piece of media is saying and the persuasion techniques it appears to use. It is not a fact-checker, does not declare claims true or false, and its output is opinion-shaped analysis, not professional, legal, medical, or financial advice.
AI can be wrong
Labels and research are generated by AI models, and no human reviews a label before you see it. They can be inaccurate, incomplete, or miss context, and the same input can produce different output. Verify anything that matters through primary sources before acting on it or repeating it.
Your account
To create an account you must be at least 13. You agree to provide accurate account information and to keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for activity under your account.
Acceptable use
Don't use the app to harass, defame, or target private individuals; don't present its output as an authoritative fact-check of a person; don't upload content you have no right to submit; don't probe, overload, or abuse the service (fair-use scan limits apply and are enforced automatically); don't try to reverse-engineer or resell the service.
Your content
You own what you scan and save. By submitting content you give us the limited license needed to process it, generate your label, and store what you choose to save — nothing more. Delete it whenever you like.
Our property
The app, its name, design, code, and the label format are ours. Analyzing a post gives you a label to use personally (including sharing it); it doesn't transfer any rights in the app itself.
Third-party content
Posts you scan belong to their original authors and platforms. A label describes that content; it doesn't grant you rights to it, and sharing a label doesn't make its subject's claims ours or yours.
Availability & changes
The service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We may change, limit, or discontinue features (including free usage limits) at any time.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we're not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (currently: nothing).
If a label is about you
Every label is written by an AI model and no person reads it before you do. Models get things wrong, and occasionally they state something false with complete confidence. If MNL has produced a label about something you made or said, and it contains a statement of fact about you that is false — not a rating you disagree with, a stated fact — write to support@mnl-app.com with enough to identify it: a screenshot of the label, the post it read, and what is false. We will acknowledge you within two business days and tell you what we have done within five. If we are away, an automatic reply says so and gives the date we return; those clocks start then. We would rather hear from you than from a lawyer, and this address is read by a person.
What we can and cannot do about it
We can delete a label from our systems and correct our records, and we will tell you either way. We cannot retrieve a copy someone has already shared — a label that has left the app is a picture on somebody's phone, and we have no way to reach it. We will say so plainly rather than imply otherwise. And we do not adjudicate the underlying post: MNL never declares a claim true or false, so a correction request is not a route to having us rule on one.
Reporting a label you scanned
Every label has a “Report a problem” control, and there is one in Settings under Support. Use it for a label that is wrong, offensive, or about something that should never have been scanned. We acknowledge within five business days and act within ten. Illegal content is dealt with the moment we read the report. If you disagree with what we decide, reply and say so — a second look is done by a person, and we answer within fifteen business days. We keep a record of every report, what we decided and when, for three years, so that we can show we responded.
Termination
You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice where practicable.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change materially, we'll note it in the app before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the updated terms.
